James Milner hands in transfer request
NEWCASTLE United were rocked today when their England Under-21 winger James Milner handed in a written transfer request.
And with a £9m bid lying on the table from Aston Villa, the Yorkshire man could be on his way back to Villa Park where he spent 12 successful months on loan in 2005-06.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill and his full entourage were at the Ricoh Arena last night and saw Milner turn in a man-of-the-match display in the 3-2 Carling Cup victory over Coventry City.
What to do you think about James Milner's transfer request? We want to hear from you, please leave your comments below.

who cares if he goes!!! if we replace him with another 4 plyers are squad is still strong
I say let him go. We don't want a player who doesn't want to play for us. He's slow and can't cross.
JAMES MILNER - DID HE JUMP OR WAS HE PUSHED
Should James Milner leave Newcastle, the board will come out of it smelling of roses. A tidy profit and we can all blame James for his treachery.
Of course we all knew that failure to offer James an improved contract (no where in the region of £140,000 a week), would push him to request a move.
So hats off to Ashley and Co for smelling of roses, rather than the stuff they grow in.
After last nights performance I believe that the price on MILNER should start rising. when you compare his talent to the that of current players and the future potential he has I think he is greatly worth more than SWP and close to the Gareth Barry Tag, If Villa can play hard ball then so should Newcastle. We are a team with an aim supposidly. To prove we have an aim ASHLEY needs to show it with either letting milner go for 16 million or telling him to wait for the offer to come in. But hopefully at the end of it he will get the pay he deserves.
we never replaced Ginola and couldnt do without Solano,do newcastle ever learn from their mistakes, to replace James would cost us more than what we would sell him for so we should do everthing to keep him at newcastle, but if he wants to leave their is no point in keeping the lad so lets not let him go on the cheap. but he will be surely missed because he is a great young talented player.
This stinks... Ken Bates was on Yorkshire Radio yesterday talking about a potential windfall!

Looks like we've been trying to do a deal for a few days. I wouldn't be surprised Jimmy has thought, 'right, well I'm not going through all this again' and refused to be the pawn in all of this. Good luck to him I say. The club is starting to smell bad again...
I think it is terrible that milner is going! why would he want to leave the fans love him and he is a excellant player who is getting better all the time.I think the board needs to get there finger out to keep such a great player.Ive seen this coming for weeks he hasnt looked happy. This is going to push fans further away.I thought mike ashley was coming in to help the club get to were they belong>yes we have keegan but sorry to say look at sunderland that manager is being backed.I will be gutted if milner goes
Milner may be decent winger but look if you really look at what he contributes as a player he isn't quite so valuable to the Toon as he apparently thinks he is-He plays constantly yet only scores 2 or 3 goals a season, once he beats his man on runs he ALWAYS tries to beat him again, and again until he inevitably loses possession. He is incapable of crossing or taking a corner or a free kick that can beat even the 1st man; and maybe there is a very good reason he has more Under 21 caps than anyone else ever-he isn't good enough to make even the subs bench for the full England team and if we ever want to be top-four contenders we need a player of at least this calibre. He has been a premiership player for more than 5 years now and hasn't really got any better. If we were to get £8million+ for him then why not invest in someone who ticks all the boxes and really moves us forward. Howay the Lads!
Im disgusted with James Milner, we pay his wages and make his name, and he waits until 5 days before transfer window closes,to hand in his transfer request!!I hope his career nose dives in the bleak midlands!!
Get Ashley on his bike....and take Wise with you..Milner asked what NUFC thought his value was 8m they said...so what about an increase in wages like the other lads..we will talk later he was told..WHAT WOULD YOU DO exactly what he has done..Not a bad player but not a great player,Will he be missed SOMETIMES?
But the way this club is now with these clowns in charge anything or nothing can happen..relagation fight for the Toon and KK the only one who can sort this club out will go back to his golf.
ASTON MILNER! sounds good... let him leave , maybe is the worst thing any player has ever done to us, leaving us 3 days before transfw. is closed, but its okey f...MILNER! yes he can run..but he cant hide from us GEORDIE FANS! he wil be back at st.james park! he will regret this transfer! geremi is a better crosser then him , owen needs thats, pluss habib beye is doing well with geremi on the right side..12mill!!!! thank you VILLA.. F.... YA MILNA!!!! its aaaall goooood...=)
If we got 12m for Milner, I think it's good business. He's a fit lad but isn't special. No burst of pace, no tricks and is poor against quick full backs. He's an average player who can run all match. Not the headless chicken Dyer was but flattered to deceive all the same.
